A WOMEN’S association, the Associació de Dones de les Illes Balears per a la Salut have issued an open letter to the management of the new University Hospital Son Espases. The letter, entitled ‘The promised Comprehensive Breast Unit, the Never Ending Story’ complains that the hospital has not kept its promise to open a specialist Breast Care Unit.
The plans for the unit have been in development since 2004 and should have been opened in 2008 in Son Dureta, and was promised as a priority in the new Son Espases hospital.
As yet the unit has yet to become a reality.
However, the hospital directors say that the unit is now underway.
