THE Supreme Court has confirmed a sentence of six months in prison for a corporal from the Spanish Legion based in Viator for attacking a lower ranking soldier in November 2006. The soldier was on night watch when the corporal, accompanied by another man who has been acquitted, asked him to go into another man’s tent to look for alcohol.

When the soldier refused, he told him to roll a ‘joint,’ which he also refused, then slapped him and ordered him to do press-ups.

The soldier did so, but at one point he tried to get up and was slapped by the corporal once again. He then gave him hashish and rolling paper with which the soldier made a joint as he was requested. He told the corporal he had nothing with which to light it, and the corporal threw a cigarette in his face.

A military court sentenced the corporal for abusing a lower ranking officer, and he appealed.
