SKILLED health care for transgender people was requested by the State Federation for Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals (FELGTB) in their first meeting with the Valencian Ministry of Health. The meeting aimed to advance issues of equality and dignity for transgender people, according to FELGTB.
They believe it is necessary to unify the public health care in different regions and to train professionals in the “reality of transsexuals.”
A law to eliminate terminology that classifies them as a “disorder” on registration forms was called for as well as a reduction in the time taken for the registry of change of name and sex.
Policies for the prevention of HIV and AIDS in the female transsexual prostitute population was requested, as they are the most vulnerable to infection.
FELGTB coordinator Mar Cambrolle called on political parties for a commitment to the transsexual community prior to the May 22 elections.
