DAVID MacBride, a convicted British rapist has been sentenced to nine years and three months in prison at Edinburgh High Court today (Thursday) after fleeing to Spain in November 2015.
MacBride, 44, has been registered indefinitely as a sex offender and given an Order for Lifelong Restriction.
This order means he could be imprisoned for life unless he proves he is not a danger to society.
If he is ever released from prison, MacBride will remain on probation indefinitely.
The court heard that MacBride was guilty of sexually abusing three women and two young children.
MacBride was charged with raping eight people, including a young child.
Additionally, he was convicted for three counts of sexual assault, two of his victims were children.
MacBride committed the crimes between 2007 and 2014 in several Scottish towns.
He fled Scotland in 2015 whilst he was being investigated by Fife’s Public Protection Unit (PPU).
Following an international police operation, MacBride was tracked down and arrested in January 2018 in Cadiz, Spain on his 44th birthday.
Scott Davidson, Detective Inspector of the PPU, said: “MacBride is a dangerous individual and we welcome this sentence. “He has now been given an Order for Lifelong Restriction due to the risk he poses to the public, and we hope the victims can now begin to move on with their lives.
“MacBride attempted to evade justice by fleeing the country, yet due to the bravery and courage of the victims he was brought before the courts to stand trial for his crimes.
“I would like to thank the victims and partner forces who assisted us in bringing MacBride to justice.
“We will always investigate all reports of sexual abuse and ensure perpetrators of such crimes are brought to justice.”
