Most of the new BiciPalma bikes have arrived and are being kept in a warehouse until the new system is implemented in December.
Since September 19, an industrial building in Palma has housed the 800 bicycles that will be incorporated into the first phase of the new BiciPalma service. The new service is expected to be available in December and both the current bicycles and stations will no longer be used.
The mayor of Palma, José Hila, and the deputy mayor for Mobility, Francesc Dalmau, visited the warehouse where the new bikes are being stored. Hila said it had been “very exciting” to be surrounded by 800 of the 930 bicycles that will be part of the new BiciPalma, which he described as “another example of our commitment to sustainability and to providing citizens with alternatives to private vehicles for their journeys”.
Francesc Dalmau added that after the changes have been made to the current BiciPalma service, “only the name will be the same”. The service will operate via a mobile application. For the moment, only Palma residents will be able to use it, although it may be available to visitors in the future.
